Many large musical acts, comedians, and entertainers will get a residence in Las Vegas once they reach that legendary status, since they get to stay in an amazing city with new audiences ready to watch them perform each night. It’s like being on the road, without having to travel anywhere. But there hasn’t really been any huge hip-hop residencies in Las Vegas, at least not yet.
There are a number of rappers and hip-hop musicians who are big enough to get a residency, especially now that hip-hop has been around for decades. People who grew up listening to Eminem, Jay-Z, Nas, Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg are all at the perfect age to have disposable income, and maybe a little older than the crowd who would want to go see a rap show in a club.
Those are all acts who are big enough to attract a new crowd of fans multiple times a week, which is a big part of a residency. Some of these acts aren’t exactly family friendly, depending on the ages, but going to see a legendary musical act could be one of the best things to do in Las Vegas with kids. Most of the big shows feature best-selling pop acts, but hip-hop has been at the top of the charts for long enough that it’s just a matter of time until it one of the casinos signs a big contract with someone.
Even if there aren’t any hip-hop residencies yet on the scale of something like Dean Martin or Celine Dion, there have been “mini-residencies” and Usher made headlines by announcing an upcoming 6 months stint. Usher has definitely been at it long enough (here’s a song he did with Pharrell from 2009) that there are parents who listened to Usher, and now their kids know who he is.
But even though there isn’t been a big rap residency in Vegas yet, that doesn’t mean there aren’t some fantastic local talents to check out:
Some of the more well-known rappers to emerge from Las Vegas include Baby Keem, Big B, and Dizzy Wright. While Vegas hasn’t had any massive break-through acts, people living in and visiting Las Vegas still have a ton of entertainment and acts that pass through, being one of the entertainment capitals of the world, so they’ve got plenty to enjoy.
